New or remanufactured? AS-PL explains that the right choice depends less on the label than on remanufacturing quality and testing.
AS-PL explains that remanufacturing is not the same as repair. Instead of replacing a single faulty part, the unit is fully dismantled, cleaned and inspected, worn components are replaced and the complete unit is function- and performance-tested, aiming to bring it as close as possible to its original specification.
Remanufactured parts offer clear savings on costly units such as start-stop starters or advanced alternators, and for older vehicles with lower market value; they can also be easier to source for less common models. A unit built on an original housing with quality components may be more reliable than the cheapest new alternative.
Three factors determine quality: the condition of the base unit, the quality of replacement components and final testing. If there is severe mechanical damage or the process is not transparent, a new part may be the better choice.
