In Krafthand, MOLL explained how its AFB battery is recognised as an AGM by the battery management system and can replace both AGM and EFB units.
The MOLL AFB (Advanced Flooded Battery), developed for vehicles with start-stop systems, is a flooded battery yet can be fitted in place of both AGM and EFB batteries. According to Managing Director Dr. Klaus Eichhorn, the key is a raised open-circuit voltage achieved through internal design changes: the vehicle’s battery management system (BMS) identifies the AFB as an AGM, so incorrect charging scenarios are avoided.

The company says the AFB costs about 20 percent less than a comparable AGM battery. For workshops, covering both AGM and EFB applications with one product also simplifies stock-keeping.
