Faults in modern cars’ electronics can lead to costly failures. MSG Equipment explains the goals and limits of computer diagnostics.
Modern cars rely on high-tech electronic systems for safe, stable operation, and faults in them often lead to failures of the most expensive units. According to MSG Equipment, computer diagnostics assesses the condition of vehicle systems without disassembly, pinpointing the cause of a fault quickly and accurately.
Diagnostic equipment includes make- and model-specific scanners, multifunctional test benches and portable testers. The device connects to the car’s diagnostic port or directly to the unit under test, reads fault codes and can clear them to confirm that a problem has been fixed.
The article reminds readers that computer diagnostics only covers electronically controlled systems and that many units cannot be checked this way, so an annual general inspection is also recommended.
