Pros and cons of replacing, deleting, hand-washing and machine-flushing a clogged DPF.
A particulate filter captures most of the soot in diesel exhaust, yet despite its self-cleaning mode it gradually clogs, especially with short urban trips. There are several ways to deal with it:
- New filter: the fastest fix, but expensive.
- Filter delete: removes the problem but releases soot that seriously harms health and the environment.
- Hand washing with fluid: cheap but slow, messy and unpredictable.
- Flushing with special equipment: removing the filter and cleaning it on a professional station is the most controlled method.
MSG Equipment has developed particulate filter flushing stations such as the MS900 for this purpose.
