Manufacturers define filter life not by mileage but by a maximum soot load, since lifespan depends heavily on usage and engine condition. Key factors include:
- Fuel quality and the use of low-SAPS engine oil
- The condition of injectors, turbocharger, thermostat and EGR valve
- Frequent short trips versus regular long highway drives
- Whether the workshop finds and fixes the cause of clogging, and the efficiency of the cleaning equipment
