The process of dismantling, inspecting and rebuilding a Ford Focus 3 electric steering rack and testing it with the MSG MS561 EPS controller.
Repairing an electric steering rack is complex work that requires an experienced technician and proper diagnostic equipment. Using the Ford Focus 3 as an example, MSG Equipment walks through the process: the rack is removed, washed and sandblasted, each part is inspected, and rust and wear caused by damaged boots are cleaned up.
Where needed, shafts are straightened and the housing and bushing are machined; worn bearings, bushings, seals and rings are replaced. After assembly, the rack is tested in a way that simulates operation on the car.
The MS561 EPS controller helps pinpoint faults in a non-working rack — such as moisture, physical damage, contact, power supply or sensor issues — by monitoring error codes.
