Quality brake repair starts with accurate diagnosis. Warning signs, common causes and bench testing of brakes at the workshop.
According to MSG Equipment, the key to quality brake repair is a professional diagnosis that measures the main performance indicators, which then decides whether a partial or full overhaul is needed.
Faults usually stem from poor-quality parts, worn pads, discs or calipers, or contaminated fluid and air in the system. A check is needed when you notice:
- Noise, vibration or steering wheel judder when braking
- The car pulling to one side or uneven pad wear
- A sinking pedal or damaged brake hoses
At the workshop, braking force per wheel, system pressure and disc ovality are measured on a test bench, followed by a visual inspection. After repair, the system must be bled of air.
