The new i-Starts function of MSG Equipment’s MS016 tester makes it possible to test 12 V start-stop (StARS) alternators without removing them from the car.
MSG Equipment announced a new function called i-Starts for its MS016 alternator tester. It allows reversible 12 V start-stop alternators (starter-alternators, StARS) to be diagnosed without removing them from the vehicle.
A start-stop system shuts the engine off when the car comes to a halt and restarts it quietly when the driver moves off; according to the manufacturer this cuts fuel consumption by 4–5 percent. The reversible alternator at the heart of the system can now be checked with the same tester.
- Testing of conventional 12/24 V alternators of all types
- Testing of voltage regulators separately from the alternator
- Built-in database for regulator connections
