Electric A/C compressors, now common in EVs and hybrids, need a specialised approach. MSG Equipment’s MS112 bench was built to diagnose them.
In electric and hybrid vehicles the A/C system does more than cool the cabin: it also regulates the temperature of the high-voltage battery. Electric compressors that run independently of the engine are therefore becoming widespread. They contain an inverter, motor and control electronics, use dielectric oil, usually have no oil drain plug and operate at 200–400 V.
MSG Equipment’s MS112 test bench automates most of the diagnostic process:
- A full test mode and an express mode for quick screening
- Compressed nitrogen from an external tank as the working gas
- Touchscreen control, savable and printable results and an updatable compressor database
- A compact 74×60×55 cm footprint and 40 kg weight
