Electric power steering (EPS) systems improve comfort and safety and integrate with driver assistance features. As more vehicles use EPS, demand for repair services is growing. MSG Equipment’s MS561 PRO tester can diagnose EPS units in more than 4,000 car models.
Running an EPS unit separately from the vehicle is the hardest step because of the variety of data transmission technologies. The MS561 PRO can activate units using all of the following:
- Single or dual CAN buses and the faster CAN-FD,
- FlexRay, used in some VAG models (via the MS39000 special cable),
- Unique control signals, with the universal MS-35670 cable covering many units.
During testing it shows the expected current draw, decoded data packets and non-critical errors, and during repair it allows torque sensors to be diagnosed separately.
