To keep up with CAN-FD, dual CAN buses and gateways in modern EPS units, the MS561 tester received a new electronics board and software.
New developments in electric power steering – the CAN-FD protocol, control via two independent CAN buses, gateways between the rack and diagnostic bus and new OBDII pinouts – prevented the MS561, created in 2016, from fully diagnosing some modern units.
MSG Equipment therefore upgraded the tester with a new board featuring a new processor, memory and current sensors:
- CAN-FD data bus compatibility
- Simultaneous communication with two independent CAN buses
- Gateway function and customizable OBDII pinout
The software now displays a connection diagram for universal cables, plus expected current draw, decoded data packets and non-critical errors. MSG still recommends dedicated cables for faster, safer connection, and they remain mandatory for FlexRay units.
