Physico-chemical washing, electrochemical polishing, ultrasonic and mechanical cleaning methods used before repairing automotive units.
Repairing and remanufacturing automotive units requires removing dirt and sludge from components. Cleaning matters for repair quality, accurate measurement, preparing for protective coatings and achieving the surface finish needed for assembly. MSG Equipment summarises the most common methods:
- Physico-chemical washing: jet or bath washing with solutions at 75–95 °C
- Electrochemical polishing: using a conductive electrolyte, often as pre-treatment before coating
- Ultrasonic cleaning: 20–25 kHz sound waves create bubbles that break up deposits
- Mechanical cleaning: by hand with scrapers, brushes and abrasives
Whatever the method, it should meet requirements for a properly equipped area, affordability, staff and environmental safety, and the use of professional detergents.
