MSG Equipment engineers learned to read and process FlexRay data on BMW steering racks, with work on Audi and Mercedes racks under way.
FlexRay is the high-speed in-vehicle network standard that has replaced older diagnostic interfaces in European cars. Equipment able to send and receive FlexRay data is still uncommon because it is expensive.
In May 2019 MSG Equipment engineers announced that they could read and process FlexRay data on BMW vehicles as part of EPS rack diagnostics. The work covered Audi A6 C7/A7, Q7 (2015 on), A4 B9, BMW F- and G-series, and Mercedes W205, W212 and W222 racks.
BMW units came first, since their racks cannot be checked on the bench without sending the necessary data over FlexRay. Diagnosing and updating Audi racks was the second step, and work on Mercedes units continued.
